(FLORIDA)- Each day, many low-income Floridians confront difficult family law issues without the legal guidance necessary to navigate them. Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS) has unveiled a new way for family law attorneys to make a difference without ever leaving their desk. The Pro Bono on Demand Virtual Clinic is a fresh take on volunteerism, flexible, meaningful, and built with busy legal professionals in mind.
This innovative program allows Florida Bar-licensed attorneys to provide remote legal advice to low-income Floridians facing pressing family law issues, from custody and child support to divorce, paternity, and protection. The process is streamlined and fully supported by FRLS, making it easier than ever to give back.
A New Way to Serve, On Your Terms
“Pro Bono on Demand removes the barriers that often prevent busy attorneys from engaging in volunteer work,” said Britt Berg, Pro Bono Manager at FRLS. “There’s no travel, no ongoing case management, and full malpractice coverage. It’s as simple as choosing a time slot and showing up ready to help.”
Volunteer attorneys will counsel clients navigating difficult family law challenges, including divorce, paternity, child support, custody, and timesharing. All clients are income-qualified by FRLS, and sessions are supported by administrative staff who manage conflict checks and scheduling in advance.
How It Works, Simple and Streamlined
- Remote Legal Advice, Made Easy: Volunteer from a private, secure location such as your home or office
- Pre-scheduled Sessions: FRLS provides the time slot, client information, and background a week in advance.
- Malpractice Coverage: Provided by FRLS during all volunteer sessions.
- Administrative Support: All post-session follow-up is streamlined and supported by the FRLS team.
“We understand how valuable attorneys’ time is,” added Berg. “This model ensures that every minute you volunteer goes directly toward helping someone in need. It’s an incredibly efficient way to make a real difference.”
The Impact Is Real
Each session connects a vulnerable Floridian with expert legal advice they would otherwise be unable to access. These clients are often facing significant family disruptions, and the guidance they receive during these calls can be life-changing.
“You’re not just volunteering,” said Peter Dennis, Managing Attorney at FRLS, “You’re helping someone regain stability, safety, and dignity, and you can do it all in just one hour.”
Step Into Service in Just 3 Easy Steps
- Select a time block using the FRLS volunteer calendar
- Meet with the scheduled client virtually by phone or Zoom
- Complete brief follow-up steps with full support from the FRLS team

Attorneys who participate in Pro Bono on Demand become part of a growing network of legal professionals committed to expanding access to justice. The program offers firms and solo practitioners a concrete, manageable way to meet pro bono goals while delivering high-impact service to the communities that need it most.
“Whether you can give one hour a week, one afternoon a quarter, or one call when your schedule allows, it all matters,” said Berg. “This program is built to support your time, not compete with it.”
