Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc.(FRLS)will handle education cases involving the rights of Exceptional Student Education (ESE) students and children protected by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973,(504)students. FRLS will represent clients based on the School District’s violation of Federal case law, IDEA or 504 Regulations, and deviation from established district ESE or 504 procedures or state/or local education law. FRLS will also consider legal representation where a handicapped child is facing immediate denial of educational opportunities, such as in cases of expulsion and/or alternate educational placement proceedings.
In acknowledgement of our diverse community FRLS handles ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) violation cases on an individual or group basis. Legal representation will focus on the district’s violation of Federal and State law regarding the rights of students who are Limited English Proficient/ Language Enriched Pupils (LEP). FRLS staff will attempt to remedy the violations which have resulted in the denial of the student’s educational opportunities.
Finally, FRLS’s staff will handle cases involving the right of homeless students to receive appropriate educational services pursuant to The McKinney-Vento Act.
