(RIVIERA BEACH, Fla.) — Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS), a non-profit law firm that provides free legal aid to qualified everyday people in 13 counties across Florida and farmworkers statewide on civil matters, is pleased to announce that its Palm Beach County Regional Managing Attorney Kanisha Taylor has been selected to participate in Palm Beach County’s Inaugural Housing Leadership Academy, a new nine-month program designed to advance the expertise of local leaders in affordable housing and homelessness solutions.
Attorney Taylor, who oversees FRLS’s legal services work in Palm Beach County, will join the Academy’s first-ever cohort of participants this fall. The program is designed to strengthen collaboration between legal advocates, policymakers, researchers, and housing leaders to create lasting solutions to Palm Beach County’s housing challenges.
“I am thrilled to participate in Palm Beach County’s Housing Leadership Academy,” said Taylor. “I look forward to gaining new insights, strategies, and connections that I can bring back to my work at FRLS to better support our clients. This program will help me enhance our strategies and elevate our advocacy for families facing eviction and housing instability.”
Implemented by the Palm Beach County Community Services Department in partnership with Florida Atlantic University (FAU) and the Housing Leadership Council, the Academy offers expert-led sessions, mentoring, and hands-on community impact projects.
Participation in the Academy will directly benefit FRLS, which handles a high volume of housing law cases each year in Palm Beach County. Many of these cases involve evictions and housing instability, challenges that disproportionately impact low-income families. By providing leaders like Taylor with advanced training, mentorship, and access to broader networks, the Academy will enhance FRLS’s ability to advocate for clients, address systemic housing issues, and implement more effective community solutions.
In her role, Attorney Taylor is responsible for training and supervising her team, which includes seven attorneys, four paralegals, five support staff, and two office managers across two office locations in Riviera Beach and Belle Glade.
