· Public Benefits,Client Story

John (not his real name) was diagnosed with HIV in 2008 and because he was unable to work he began receiving disability insurance benefits without which he would have been homeless. In 2019, the Social Security Administration ceased his benefits although John continued to be unable to work full-time due to his illness.

FRLS represented John and was able to show that despite the fact that his HIV was under control, the serious side effects of his medications made it impossible for him the maintain substantial gainful activity (SGA), and not only did John’s benefits resume but he obtained the back benefits that were owed to him.
