Ana (not her real name) was in a very abusive marriage and escaped to the United States from Guatemala with her two children. Her husband followed her and threatened to harm her and the children if she didn’t go back to him.

A woman and her daughter

Ana knew she had to end the cycle. When she refused to go back with her husband he abused her again. This time he was arrested and charged with battery. Ana and the children went to the domestic violence shelter where they received psychological counseling. Ana knew if she went back to Guatemala her husband would find her again.

FRLS represented Ana and helped her file for a special humanitarian Visa which will allow her to stay in the United States with her children. Her husband was deported.
