A client came to Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. (FRLS) seeking help obtaining a domestic violence injunction after experiencing abuse at the hands of her husband.
The abuse escalated during one particularly severe incident. After physically abusing the client, the husband turned his violence toward her child, causing physical harm and forcing the child to flee the home in fear. Terrified for both her own safety and her child's well-being, the client knew she needed legal protection.
FRLS worked closely with the client to prepare for court and advocate on her behalf throughout the injunction process. We represented her at the final hearing, ensuring the court had the information needed to understand the severity of the abuse and the danger facing the family.
As a result, the judge granted the client a final injunction providing one year of protection. When the husband later violated the injunction, he was arrested and jailed for failing to comply with the court's order.
