Client Story | FRLS Negotiated Settlement to Keep Client Housed After Lien Foreclosure Action

· LSC,Housing Law,Housing Rights,Client Story,News Releases

Our client needed legal assistance after a lien foreclosure action had been filed against her. Several years ago, she had contracted for the installation of impact windows; however, her financing fell through.

Despite the financing falling through, the client began paying the window company monthly though no formal agreement was arranged. On the last date of the statute of limitations, the window company filed the lien foreclosure action.

That’s when she reached out to Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. (FRLS) for help. FRLS is a non-profit law firm that provides free civil legal aid to qualified individuals, families, and vulnerable communities across 13 Florida counties and to farmworkers statewide.

FRLS provided legal assistance by negotiating a settlement on the client's behalf to pay her remaining outstanding balance less the high interest demanded by the window company. The settlement agreement has allowed the client to stay in her home, in which she has over $200,000 in equity.

It’s successful client stories like this one that exemplifies the mission of FRLS. We believe everyone deserves equal access to justice, even if you find yourself in financial hardship. Apply for free housing legal aid by contacting us at 1-888-582-3410 or applying online at FRLS.org.
