(WAUCHULA, Fla.) – Dozens of new and expecting parents gathered on Saturday, April 5, at Florida’s First Assembly of God in Wauchula for the second annual Hardee County Bumps & Babies Community Baby Shower—an event centered on educating families and connecting them with essential resources as they prepare to welcome a child.
Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS) joined healthcare providers and local organizations—including Aetna, Better Together, Sunshine Health, the Healthy Start Coalition, and the Wauchula Police Department—to support this community-wide initiative.
More than just a celebration, the event created a space for learning, discussion, and access to critical support services.

Attendees engaged with vendors offering information on maternal health, social services, nutrition, and more. One of the key educational components of the afternoon included a session on pre-eclampsia awareness, highlighting symptoms and risks associated with this serious pregnancy complication.
While gift giveaways and games added fun to the day, the primary focus remained on empowering families through knowledge and support. FRLS was on-site to provide information about its free civil legal services, which play a vital role in helping families navigate complex legal challenges that directly impact their stability and well-being.

These services include legal assistance in family law matters such as child custody, child support, and protection from domestic violence, as well as support with housing rights, public benefits, and consumer issues. For families facing financial hardship or crisis, access to legal aid can be the difference between uncertainty and security.
Legal issues often intersect with other challenges families face—such as unsafe housing, lack of income, or threats to personal safety. By ensuring parents have access to legal guidance and representation, FRLS helps create stronger, safer foundations for families to thrive.
Through collaborative efforts like the Bumps & Babies Community Baby Shower, FRLS and its partners are working to ensure that families not only feel celebrated, but also supported, informed, and equipped to face the future with confidence.
