(FLORIDA) – In a world where you can be anything, be kind. This maxim is one of Florida attorney Catherine Eaton’s favorites. Simple yet profound, the saying motivates Eaton – Founder and Managing Attorney of the Eaton Family Law Firm, with offices in Nashville, Tennessee and West Palm Beach, Florida – to donate her time and services to help individuals and families who otherwise lack legal assistance.
To make the most impact, Eaton partners with the Pro Bono program at Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS). FRLS is a non-profit law firm that provides free civil legal aid to qualified individuals, families, and vulnerable communities across 13 Florida counties and to farmworkers statewide.
“I like helping people,” says Eaton, who notes that her volunteer work with FRLS “has given [her] the opportunity to directly help people going through a difficult time.”
Helping others is universal, Eaton asserts, but requires an initial request: “I find most people like to help; you just need to ask them.” Eaton also believes that her service to her clients will eventually be paid forward, and that her clients “will help others when able.”
The skilled attorney has spent her life enacting her passion for serving others. Eaton remarks that she has “always been a volunteer,” from her early experiences working with the Junior League – an international organization that is dedicated to advancing women’s leadership throughout grassroots action to her “ongoing work in the Family Law Section of The Florida Bar.”
FRLS has offered a program through which attorneys like Eaton can continue their mission of serving those most in need, namely by offering their legal skills and experience at no cost to clients facing civil legal challenges. To this end, Eaton reflects on her Pro Bono service at FRLS: “I am glad that I did something – which is always better than nothing.”
