(FORT PIERCE, Fla.) — Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS) joined dozens of local agencies and organizations on Wednesday, July 16, for the 7th Annual Unity in Our Community event, hosted by the Fort Pierce Police Department. Held at the Fort Pierce Recreation Center, the event brought families, law enforcement, and service providers together for a day of connection, celebration, and community support.
Community members also received access to adult health screenings and spoke directly with public service professionals about available resources.
FRLS participated in the event to share information about its free civil legal services, with a focus on helping qualified everyday people and families in St. Lucie County and the Treasure Coast. FRLS’s cases involving family law and housing law were among the most frequent in 2024, reflecting the critical need for legal assistance in these areas across the Treasure Coast, according to case data.
In housing cases, FRLS helped clients facing eviction, unsafe or uninhabitable living conditions, foreclosure, and disputes with landlords. In family law, FRLS assisted with custody and visitation rights, child support, domestic violence protection orders, and divorce proceedings.
“This event was an opportunity to connect with the people we serve outside of the courtroom,” said Iola Mosley, Managing Attorney at FRLS. “Whether someone needs help with housing, public benefits, or family law, we want them to know we’re here and ready to stand beside them.”
The Unity in Our Community event, now in its seventh year, is designed to strengthen the relationship between residents and law enforcement through positive interactions and shared experiences.
