Florida Rural Legal Services, Inc. Receives $3,000 Grant from Lee County Bar Association Foundation to Expand Marketing of Free Legal Services for Qualified Residents

(LEE COUNTY, Fla.) - Florida Rural Legal Services (FRLS), a non-profit law firm dedicated to providing free legal services to qualified residents in 14 counties and migrant farmworkers across the state, is the proud recipient of a $3,000 grant from the Lee County Bar Association Foundation. This grant is earmarked to bolster the marketing efforts of essential services, enabling FRLS to reach and assist qualified Lee County residents in need across a wide spectrum of legal matters.

The grant comes at a crucial time, as FRLS continues educate and fight for residents who are dealing with long-term legal challenges spurred by Hurricane Ian.

“Getting the word out is key,” said Iola Mosley, interim executive director for FRLS. “We are immensely grateful for the generous grant from the Lee County Bar Association Foundation. By enhancing our marketing initiatives, we aim to amplify awareness about the essential services we provide, ensuring that those in need can access the legal support they deserve."

The Lee County Bar Association Foundation's recognition and support underscore the importance of these services and their impact on the local community.

Grant Money to Fund the Marketing of Key Services:

1. Family Law Assistance: FRLS provides critical representation and guidance on family law matters, including divorce, paternity/custody, child support, and addressing domestic violence issues.

2. Public Benefits: Offering legal assistance in navigating public benefits such as Social Security, food stamps termination, unemployment issues, and termination of disability benefits.

3. Elder Law: Providing support in areas such as wills and trust, elder abuse, guardianship, and long-term care planning.

4. Housing Law: Assisting with housing-related issues, including evictions, landlord/tenant disputes, foreclosures, partitions, and other housing law matters.

5. Consumer Law: Offering legal guidance in bankruptcy cases, garnishment issues, fraud/exploitation cases, and addressing collection abuse.

6. Immigration: Providing legal assistance in immigration matters, including green card renewal, naturalization, domestic violence under VAWA, U Visa, and T Visa applications.

7. Farm Workers' Rights: Advocating for the rights of farmworkers, addressing issues like wage theft, migrant worker rights, housing concerns, and health and safety issues.

8. Individual Rights: FRLS fights against racial discrimination, human trafficking, employment discrimination, and aids in driver's license restoration.

9. Community Economic Development: Assisting in community economic development efforts and prevention and resolution of heirs' property issues.
